I think the red wheels look good, especially with the bare silver nuts and axle caps.
Its hard to tell but I had to re-coat the wood, as most of the original polyurethane was either chipped off, or never applied. (Seriously, Amish wagon builder, why NOT coat the underside??)
I didn’t clean it up TOO much before adding 4-6 coats of new poly, because I didn’t want it to look TOO nice. Its got a slightly ratty well-used look, and I like it.
The only thing I might have done different would be to find a better axle cap (not much out there in 5/8 size) and maybe some chrome acorn nuts for the “lug” nuts.
Oh, and skull valve stem caps \m/
